The Chevrolet El Camino (Spanish translation: "The Road") was a coupe utility vehicle / muscle car built by Chevrolet in the United States from 1959 to 1960, with production resuming in 1964 and continuing through 1987. Produced in response to the success of the rival Ford Ranchero, it was based on corresponding Chevrolet car lines, though in North America, the vehicle is classified as a truck and titled as such. During 1978 through 1987, the El Camino was sold under four main models: The Super Sport, The Royal Knight, The Conquista, and the regular El Camino. It also had a twin called the GMC Sprint and later the GMC Caballero from 1978-1987. In Mexico, it was sometimes sold as the Chevrolet Conquistador.
The 1981 models received a new vertical grill. The 1981 engines mostly continued from 1980 but now wore GM’s Computer Control emissions system. The three-speed automatic added a lock-up torque converter to aid highway mileage.
This sharp sport model has a 305ci V-8, with 150 hp. The transmission is a 3-speed automatic. It features air conditioning, am/fm radio with cassette, tachometer, tonneau bed cover, Ralley wheels, dual exhaust and two-tone paint. It’s in great shape and runs well.
Branson Auto Museum was conceived in August of 2007 and opened on May 15, 2009. Partners in the Museum, knew that the Branson area was hungry for car and automotive related things to do. Branson Auto Museum was originally scheduled to go into a purpose built 20,000 sq. ft. building on the Strip. When the partners discovered that the former crafts mall the "Engler Block" was available, they knew it would be the perfect fit for what they were planning. The buiding is layed out in sections that wander through the building which is the ideal setting for a museum. The charm and character of the building also lends itself nicely to a museum.
