Vehicle Description

In 1938, Buick offered a diverse model line that included a very wide selection of wheelbases, engine output, and body styles to choose from. Their convertibles were attractive and sporting, the coupes and sedans were practical, while the limousines and custom- bodied cars offered luxury, style and distinction. Despite a general market slump, Buick still managed to sell over 170,000 cars, moving it all the way up to fourth place in American automobile sales. This success can largely be credited to the growing influence of Harley Earl’s Art & Color Section throughout General Motors, as well as Buick’s General Manager, Harlow Curtice. Another major contributor to Buick’s success was Charles Chayne. As Engineering Manager, he attended to the mechanical details; for 1938, these included refinements to Buick’s advanced overhead valve inline eight-cylinder engine, an improved frame, and the introduction of full coil spring suspension – an innovation that would not be seen on most competing marques for many years.

This Buick Special’s current owner bought this car 8 years ago from an East Coast collector who was the 2nd owner from new. The Straight Eight engine run perfectly and has plenty of power. We believe the exterior is original and is in very good shape considering that it is over 70 years old. The interior has been re-done in the correct Tan Mohair and is in excellent condition. Features an AM radio and clock. These Buicks are getting harder to find and this is a great example that you can use like it is or restore the exterior for a show car.

About Us

Branson Auto Museum was conceived in August of 2007 and opened on May 15, 2009. Partners in the Museum, knew that the Branson area was hungry for car and automotive related things to do. Branson Auto Museum was originally scheduled to go into a purpose built 20,000 sq. ft. building on the Strip. When the partners discovered that the former crafts mall the "Engler Block" was available, they knew it would be the perfect fit for what they were planning. The buiding is layed out in sections that wander through the building which is the ideal setting for a museum. The charm and character of the building also lends itself nicely to a museum.
